Within the cities of Dallas, Hutchins, Lancaster, and Wilmer, the 6,000-acre Dallas Logistics Hub hosts more than 60 million square feet of distribution and manufacturing space. This location was selected due to an available but under-employed workforce in the area, major transportation arteries along three interstates, an inland port with two rail lines, an airport, and an established foreign trade zone. The Dallas Logistics Hub property is valued at about $6 billion and serves as a distribution, manufacturing, office, and retail space for various corporations.
More than 20 years ago, Kimley-Horn was initially brought on by The Allen Group as the lead consultant for this ongoing project. Since then, we have provided 69 clients within the hub with master planning, engineering, and marketing services, including (but not limited to):
Site development
Roadway & bridge design
Feasibility studies
Entitlement studies
Phase I and II environmental studies
Water/wastewater master planning
Public agency relations, representation, and presentations
Marketing services
Securing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification
Franchise utility planning
Supporting Multidisciplinary Projects
After the project’s entitlement phase, Kimley-Horn performed preliminary engineering, design surveying, construction plan preparation, and construction phase services for six infrastructure projects and four development projects, including the Southport Logistics Park.
One of the most significant infrastructure projects to date was the Wintergreen Overpass, the first major infrastructure improvement project for the hub. Wintergreen Road is a half-mile, six-lane divided boulevard with a 450-foot bridge spanning the Union Pacific main rail line and Miller’s Ferry Road, connecting West Hutchins to I-45. The complex effort of planning an overpass in concert with this boulevard required us to build a team of multidisciplinary experts to rise to the challenge. The project scope included:
Bridge design
Roadway design
Storm drain design
Traffic control
Relocation of a 16-inch water line
Channel design
Stakeholder coordination

The Wintergreen Overpass required Kimley-Horn to coordinate with seven stakeholders—The City of Hutchins, the Texas Department of Transportation, the North Central Texas Council of Governments, the Union Pacific Railroad, The Allen Group, ONCOR Energy, and the managing agency, Dallas County Public Works. Our team aligned our services with the expectations of these various stakeholders while delivering the final product efficiently. Showcasing a suite of our multidisciplinary services, the Wintergreen Overpass is just one example of the breadth of projects we have provided for the Dallas Logistics Hub.
Today, Kimley-Horn remains a trusted partner to the multiple landowners of the hub and continues to serve its diverse tenants. Across decades, our work on the Dallas Logistics Hub has helped bring to life a state-of-the-art multimodal distribution and manufacturing center for the world’s leading brands.
