Kimley-Horn is proud to be named as Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Midwest Design Firm of the Year for 2023. This year, ENR also ranked Kimley-Horn as #9 in its national Top 500 Design Firms list. As a trusted engineering publication for more than 140 years, ENR gives visibility to the most prominent companies, projects, and people shaping the building and infrastructure markets.
Over the course of 2022, Kimley-Horn organically grew the Midwest region’s revenue by 65%. Part of this growth can also be attributed to the opening of four new offices—Chicago North Suburbs (Deerfield), Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; Twin Cities West (Eden Prairie), Minnesota; and West Lafayette, Indiana. Over the last year, the offices made significant contributions to transit, industrial distribution, parks & recreation, and aviation services.
One of these projects includes working with the Metropolitan Council in Minneapolis to gain critical community feedback in the planning of the Blue Line Light Rail Transit Extension project. Kimley-Horn proposed the use of PublicCoordinate, an innovative online community engagement platform, to illustrate project information and receive community feedback in an easily accessible way. The community responded positively and left 4,000 survey responses and more than 2,000 comments on the interactive map.
“The growth we’ve seen as a firm in the Midwest is organic. It is not about mergers and acquisitions. That’s not a part of who we are. We grow by hiring talented people one or two at a time.”
— Chris Leverett, principal and Midwest regional leader
