In 2017, Kimley-Horn was chosen to provide planning and design services for the one-of-a-kind Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. Our team worked diligently to ensure this stadium would live up to the client’s design vision. Little did we know, the design of the largest building in Las Vegas would create such a great opportunity to show kids the importance of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

When Kimley-Horn’s Jody Belsick, P.E., LEED AP, was approached by Vegas PBS STEAM with the unique opportunity to be featured in a series about how Allegiant Stadium came to be, she was thrilled to accept. Not only did she describe the firm’s contributions when designing and constructing the stadium, but Jody also gave children a glimpse into the impact than can be made when pursuing a career in STEAM.

“I am where I am today because others took an interest in making sure I knew the options with STEAM. It means the world to me to be able to show kids, especially young women, something tangible you can do with an engineering degree, and that they can do anything they put their minds to.”

Empowering the STEAM Leaders of the Future

At Kimley-Horn, we aim to ensure the next generation understands the importance of STEAM and empower them to pursue professions in related fields. The decisions they make today help shape our world tomorrow.

Kimley-Horn has always looked for new ways to introduce STEAM to kids, and to inspire them to learn more about how they can use what they learn to make a difference. Steve Lefton, President and CEO of Kimley-Horn, shared the importance of STEAM saying, “As professionals in STEM, we have a responsibility to inspire and prepare the next generation to thrive in careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. As I look back on my own career, I’m thankful for the people who instilled that passion in me.”

The world continuously needs STEAM professionals to complete projects such as the Allegiant Stadium. Showing children what they can accomplish can open a world they didn’t know existed—they could become the STEAM leaders of our future.
