City of Montgomery Improves Accessibility & Americans with Disability Act Compliance
The City of Montgomery, Alabama—an area known for its rich history and tourism—is developing a comprehensive master plan to improve its accessibility for residents and visitors with disabilities. Aiming to create a more welcoming place for all, the City has hired Kimley-Horn to oversee these efforts by developing Montgomery’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan.
A collaborative effort among the City, Kimley-Horn, Maze, Inc., and Croy Engineering, the ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan provides recommendations for improving accessibility related to signalized intersections, sidewalk corridors, transit stops, design construction standards, and more. The project relies on detailed data compiled from field assessments to determine where improvements are needed throughout Montgomery. A Kimley-Horn ADA data collection application and data processing software will be used to evaluate all field data for compliance with the Proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Rights-of-Way (PROWAG).
