Tennessee Aviation Professionals Academy Wins 2025 NASAO Award
In 2025, the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) recognized Tennessee Aviation Professionals (TAP) Academy—a Kimley-Horn and Tennessee Department of Transportation, Aeronautics Division project—with the Most Innovative State Program award. Awarded at the NASAO Annual Convention and Trade Show every year, this recognition highlights one-of-a-kind projects that are focused on serving local communities and aviation professionals.
Our team led the development of TAP Academy to help aviation professionals across Tennessee receive consistent training and foster an environment of networking and connection. Working closely with a core group of subject matter experts, we developed all course materials, coordinated in-person training logistics, and synthesized feedback on the course to inform future iterations.
The benefits of TAP Academy are expected to stretch across the state—including increased regulatory compliance, enhanced safety and efficiency, improved airport inspection results, and
greater collaboration between airports and governing bodies. Our aviation team was honored to receive this award with our project partners and be part of this broader effort to educate the next generation of aviation leaders in Tennessee.
