For more than a century, the Cincinnati Open has brought in tennis enthusiasts from around the world to cheer on their favorite players and support charitable causes in the Queen City and beyond. After a historic change in ownership, Kimley-Horn supported the new owners, public partners, and stakeholders as they rallied around an effort to grow the legacy of the longest-running professional tennis tournament in the nation—preserving an economic and cultural anchor for Ohio while investing in facilities that could compete on the world stage.

A Community-First Campus Built for What’s Next
With a tournament deadline that left little room for delays, the project team moved efficiently to keep design and permitting on schedule. Kimley-Horn created construction documents and completed full entitlement and permitting services in less than 6 months, setting our construction partners up for success and allowing them to complete the project in less than a year. Our client and partner network—including Cincinnati Open, the City of Mason, Warren County, the State of Ohio, and others—stayed nimble through evolving conditions and helped expand tournament capacity and elevate athlete and fan experiences at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
Kimley-Horn supported their vision with civil engineering and parking expertise grounded in field verification and practical operations planning. Using drone technology and targeted studies, we helped the team understand site conditions, plan new and expanded parking, and evaluate access options that balanced event-day peaks with day-to-day usability. Our team also leveraged exhibits and scenario planning to support stakeholder discussions and coordinate adjacent land usage.
Returning the Serve to the Community: Amenities Beyond Match Day
In 2025, the new Lindner Family Tennis Center opened, supporting a stronger regional economy during the tournament and delivering year-round perks like the following:
- 16 new or relocated courts
- 1 sunken stadium
- 6 pickleball-specific courts
- 2 padel courts
- 50,000-square-foot, 6 court indoor tennis center
- 55,000-square-foot clubhouse
For fans, a reimagined pavilion, lawn for live entertainment, and other gathering spaces improve comfort, shade, wayfinding, and dwell time so they can focus on enjoying the top-of-the line tournament with friends and family. For operators and sponsors, better site logistics and parking strategies improve transportation flow, helping the venue handle more visitors while reducing friction for surrounding roadways.
Innovation that Raises the Net for Tennis and Beyond
This project is already redefining entertainment venues and influencing how other tournaments think about expansion. As the recipient of the 2025 ATP 1000 Tournament of the Year and the 2025 WTA 1000 Tournament of the Year as voted on by professional tennis players throughout the world, the improvements at the Cincinnati Open have set a new bar for player facilities and experiences.
