Brian Shaw Contributes to Book about Parking Reform Pioneer

A higher education parking and transportation planning expert, Brian Shaw was invited to contribute to The Shoup Doctrine: Essays Celebrating Donald Shoup and Parking Reforms. Authored by nearly 40 professionals with diverse backgrounds, The Shoup Doctrine discusses and celebrates Dr. Donald Shoup’s industry-shaping ideas. As a Distinguished University of California, Los Angeles Research Professor of Urban Planning, Shoup created both national and international ripples throughout his career by helping parking professionals and cities rethink curb management, fees, and the interconnected relationship between parking, community development, and environmental responsibility.
Brian partnered with other professionals to create Chapter 25: Donald Shoup’s Lasting Impact on the Parking Profession. As someone who met Dr. Shoup and saw his parking reform ideas implemented first-hand, he was honored to be part of the tribute book and share enduring concepts like the “85% rule” and how to better balance parking and people-focused transportation systems.
