ITE 2022 Young Leaders to Follow

Kimley-Horn’s Morgan Nelson and David Samba were recently recognized by the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) as 2022 Young Leaders to Follow for their accomplishments and contributions to ITE and the transportation industry.

Morgan Nelson, P.E.

Morgan’s dedication to leadership and transportation projects has earned her the title of Great Lakes District Rising Star. As a transportation engineer at Kimley-Horn, Morgan works on a broad range of traffic operations, planning, parking, and noise studies. She approaches each project with a commitment to technical accuracy, a view towards partnership and collaboration, and as an opportunity to learn. Morgan has demonstrated a passion for sharing her professional experience with others and has dedicated her career to inspiring engineers to be leaders in the organizations and communities we serve.

Morgan’s enthusiasm for transportation engineering is evident in her work with ITE. She has served various roles for International, Great Lakes District, Illinois Section, and North Central Section. In addition to her leadership in ITE, Morgan cares about promoting women in engineering through her engagement with WTS International and the Society of Women Engineers. Morgan has served various leadership roles in the office, providing guidance to young engineers and helping to advance a collaborative environment. She currently serves as chair of Kimley-Horn’s Community Service Committee, which allows her to positively influence various organizations in our communities.

David Samba, P.E. PTOE, PTP, RSP1

David has over a decade of transportation engineering and planning experience. His work in parking analyses, corridor operations and safety studies, Complete Streets design, and traffic impact analyses has allowed for the beneficial integration of mobility and land use throughout communities in Virginia, Maryland, and many other states. Additionally, David has become a key specialist in economic planning analyses, developing transportation benefit-cost analyses, and assisting public agencies in pursuit of federal grant opportunities.

Motivated to increase inclusion in transportation, David is on the ITE Equity Committee in addition to holding a position as Washington, DC Assistant Area Director. David is committed to using his experience and influence to speak about transportation justice and highlight issues related to equity through presentations, workshops, and roundtables.
