Henslee Park and Meadowbrook Park Playgrounds Spotlighted in Landscape Architect and Specifier News

A recognized source of project inspiration and industry insights for landscape architecture professionals, Landscape Architect and Specifier News (LASN) published their September 2026 features focused on playgrounds. In particular, LASN highlighted Kimley-Horn’s design work on the nearly 30,000-square-foot Henslee Park playground and splashpad in Dickson, Tennessee, and the 1-acre Meadowbrook Park playground in Arlington, Texas.

Henslee Park: Inclusive Play for All to Enjoy

Kimley-Horn collaborated with the City of Dickson to design an all-inclusive site, working with various City stakeholders to select playground and splashpad features, locations, and materials. From a conceptual site layout to supplemental preliminary construction plans to final plans and construction observation services, our team delivered a trailblazing vision for Henslee Park. Today, the playground and splashpad can be enjoyed by more than 1,000 children at a time, and the site includes an accessible restroom, caregiver respite areas, a one-of-a-kind upper-level covered picnic and park viewing space, and a diverse array of play elements to encourage childhood curiosity and exploration.

Meadowbrook Park: A Centennial-Celebrating Play Space

As the city’s first park, Meadowbrook Park holds a special place in Arlington and is located around some of the area’s top destinations. Kimley-Horn developed a master plan for the site, facilitated stakeholder and public meetings to gather feedback about the proposed improvements, and supported playground design. With inclusive accessibility, the playground includes sensory-rich elements like musical equipment, panels, climbing and rope structures, slides, and swings in addition to shaded respite areas for caregivers. The playground was completed in late 2024 in time for Meadowbrook Park’s centennial celebration, further honoring and continuing its legacy into the future.
