Downtown Wellen Featured in Landscape Architect and Specifier News

Landscape Architect and Specifier News, a monthly highlight of landscape architecture insights and projects, featured our work on Downtown Wellen in North Port, Florida. Several members of the Kimley-Horn team who worked on the project—Chris Cianfaglione, PLA, CA; Megan Curivan; and Patrick Tichenor—developed the article about how the site blends ecological respect, resident considerations, and mixed-use spaces together.

Cultivating an Aesthetic & Creative Community Environment

Kimley-Horn’s dedicated work on Wellen Park has stretched back several decades, and in recent years our team has continued to enhance the downtown space through our multidisciplinary services, including landscape architecture, civil engineering, utility design, and EV charging infrastructure design. Throughout the multi-year project on Downtown Wellen—which opened in 2023—we prioritized attentiveness to details, such as creating focal points around relocated live oaks and supporting the resilience of surrounding bodies of water with native plants and fish.

Today, Downtown Wellen is a vibrant environment on the shores of Grand Lake that hosts a restaurant, playground, performance stage, kayak and paddleboard rental spaces, an accessible floating dock, and more. This downtown area provides a variety of amenities and a sense of togetherness for Wellen Park and the broader North Port communities to enjoy that showcases our team’s creativity and collaboration.
