Sowmya Chandrasekhar Honored with ITE 2026 Transportation Achievement Award
Sowmya Chandrasekhar, PE, TE, received a 2026 Transportation Achievement Award in the Individual category at the 2026 Joint Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) International and Great Lakes District Annual Meeting and Exhibition. This recognition spotlights Sowmya’s distinctive commitment to the organization and to developing safe, accessible, and streamlined transportation systems for communities.
Transportation Industry Leadership at ITE & Beyond
A transportation engineer in Kimley-Horn’s Santa Clarita office, Sowmya has more than 18 years of experience improving intersections, corridors, roadways, traffic signals, parking, and community walkways. She has become a trusted partner to diverse regional clients, leading data-driven, high-quality projects that enhance multimodal transportation and help increase public safety.
In addition, Sowmya was a major leader of the 2025 ITE Western District Annual Meeting. As Local Arrangements Committee Chair, she organized subcommittee members to deliver a masterful multi-day event. More than 500 transportation leaders attended the conference, participating in technical tours that Sowmya helped coordinate and tuning into top-tier sessions like a panel on preparing Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympics.
From her dedication to supporting professional development and industry advancement through ITE to her transportation engineering and team leadership at Kimley-Horn, Sowmya is more than deserving of a 2026 Transportation Achievement Award.
