RAPTOR Runway Resilience: Leveraging Technology for Pavement Performance -1 PDH

May 15th, 2024 | 3:00pm – 4:00pm ET

The runway at Joint Base Langley in Eustis, Virginia, the oldest continuously operated airfield in the US Air Force, is sinking while the surrounding water is rising. To keep the F/A-22s flying, base civil engineers needed a way to expand an already strong Installation Resilience Program to include the airfield, commissioning the innovative “Runway Resilience Study.” Using state-of-the-art geophysics and geospatial techniques, we created an MRI-like picture of what’s going on under, in, and on the runway. With this data, we created a patient-saving prescription to ensure the next fifty years of aircraft operations at Joint Base Langley Eustis.
