Shannon Gunn Earns Place on the 2025 Airport Business Top 40 Under 40 List

Every year, Airport Business publishes a list of 40 extraordinary young aviation leaders who are making industry-wide impacts and spearheading exceptional projects. This year, Shannon Gunn, PE, ENV SP, was named to the Top 40 Under 40 list in recognition of her mentorship, prioritization of sustainability and resiliency initiatives, and leadership within industry organizations.

Prioritizing Sustainability and Taking Aviation Design to New Heights

With more than eight years of experience, Shannon is based in Indianapolis and specializes in aviation design, sustainable construction solutions, and innovative construction safety phasing and administration. A mentor in her office, she has a particular interest in introducing engineers to aviation design. Shannon also enjoys operating as a liaison between engineering and sustainability teams and championing her clients’ goals.

One of Shannon’s most notable projects was the Runway 5R-23L and Taxiway D Strengthening and Capacity Enhancement at the Indianapolis International Airport. She operated as the airfield design lead for this groundbreaking project, which won a 2025 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) National Recognition Award and was the first airfield project to earn Envision Platinum verification from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. Shannon has also worked on a variety of other projects at major airports, including Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, and Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

Supporting STEM for Kids and Developing the Industry’s Future

When she isn’t serving clients or spending time traveling with her family, Shannon supports workforce development and STEM education with ACEC Indiana and helps develop industry best practices and standards with the Airport Consultants Council (ACC). She is also planning for the 2026 ACC/American Association of Airport Executives Planning, Design, and Construction Symposium in Indianapolis. Across the board, Shannon demonstrates an exemplary commitment to the aviation industry with her passion for engineering, sustainability, and mentorship, making her an ideal member of Airport Business’s 2025 Top 40 Under 40 class.
