Robyn Niss, PE, LEED AP, was named to Building Design + Construction’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2023, a recognition given to rising leaders in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. She was recognized for pioneering Kimley-Horn’s large-scale K-12 practice and her successful delivery of more than 50 K-12 projects throughout Virginia.
Robyn’s work has expanded Kimley-Horn’s K-12 market to include trade schools and multi-building campus projects across Virginia. Her achievements also brought adjacent education work, including bus parking lots, running tracks, campus stormwater management, environmental consulting, landscape architecture, and land use planning.
Robyn grows her passion and understanding of K-12 education through her membership with The Association for Learning Environments (A4LE), an organization with a multidisciplinary focus on honing environments for students to learn, develop, and thrive. Robyn has presented at multiple conferences at A4LE, sharing strategies on how school designers and districts can provide more site amenities by planning for concurrent use. Robyn is also a board member of the Virginia Beach Education Foundation, and she provided her technical expertise to the Chesapeake Natural Event Mitigation Advisory Committee from 2019-2022.
