FM 2439 (Hunter Road)
Kimley-Horn prepared schematic design, environmental documentation, ROW and easement documents, and PS&E for the expansion of FM 2439 (Hunter Road) from RM 12 to north of Bishop Street.
The scope of this project included:
- Roadway reconstruction and widening
- Urban section and storm drain design
- Complicated hydraulics and hydrology
- Bridge and box culverts
- Water and sewer relocations
- Traffic signals and illumination
- Bicycle lanes and pedestrian upgrades
- Low impact development features
Kimley-Horn also prepared a traffic analysis for a roundabout and developed geometric design for the challenging grading in the low lying project area. Our team developed geometric design for the expansion of the existing roadway within 50-foot and 80-foot ROW segments while minimizing the need for additional ROW. This included squeezing 47 feet of pavement and sidewalks within the 50-foot ROW section within a developed neighborhood. The only location requiring new ROW was for the relocation of San Antonio Street to improve the alignment and intersection geometrics with FM 2439.
This project received Proposition 12 funds, and we designed the improvements within the established budget while completing the project within a compressed schedule to retain Proposition 12 funding.
