Kimley-Horn’s Matthew Jacobson recently shared his internship experience with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), answering questions from “How did you first become interested in civil engineering?” to “How did you turn your second internship into a full-time position?” As the former ASCE California State Polytechnic University, Pomona chapter president, Jacobson explained how his organization participation helped him prepare for two internships with Kimley-Horn, which led to a full-time position as a civil analyst.

“I credit ASCE for how I have developed professionally. I learned how to schedule, coordinate, and run meetings; develop minutes quickly; and use other nontechnical skills that you don’t necessarily learn in the classroom but that are important as you transition to working full time.”
