COMMISSION HONORS
BOT MEMBER CAM MCRAE

The US 70 Corridor Commission honored NC Board of Transportation Cameron "Cam" McRae at their September Board meeting in Kinston. The Board's at-large member representing aviation and ports, Mr. McRae has continued to champion the Commission's efforts to enhance the mobility and economic development along the corridor. By better connecting the Port of Morehead City to the I-40 and I-95 corridors as well as development sites, a future US 70 freeway will help bring jobs to eastern North Carolina counties and better mobility to the Port.

Mr. McRae attended the Kinston meeting and was presented a plaque of appreciation by Chairman Tom Steepy, recognizing his help in creating the foundation for the Commission's "One Vision - One Voice."

CARTERET ACCESS MANAGEMENT MEASURES PROVE SUCCESSFUL

NCDOT crash statistics show that left-turn channelizations installed at three intersections in Carteret County have significantly decreased crashes and injuries. Shown in the charts below, the annual number of crashes decreased by 26% to 76% on average at the intersections, with larger decreases in the number of injuries. At the two locations where triangular concrete medians have been installed, the annual injury averages dropped 84%.

Overall, access management measures at six intersections have decreased yearly crashes nearly by 40% and injuries 83%.
