Related Projects on Columbia Pike
The Columbia Pike Multimodal Improvements Project will build upon implemented or in-progress related projects, including:
- Recommended street and streetscape improvements that have been or are being carried out within some parts of Columbia Pike, including:
- Segment between S. Oakland Street and S. Walter Reed Drive: County utility undergrounding project and streetscape improvements, which were recently completed
- Segment between S. Wakefield Street and Four Mile Run Drive: County street improvement project, including right-of-way acquisition, utility undergrounding, and the realignment of S. Buchanan Street
- Washington Boulevard/Columbia Pike (Route 27/Route 244) Interchange design-build project by VDOT (including new signal at Orme St.)
- Several redevelopment projects which include some street improvements
- Bus “super stops” are being installed in three locations along the corridor—one near the intersection with Walter Reed Drive and two (one in each direction) just west of the intersection with S. Dinwiddie Street (Phase 1 of a more comprehensive plan)
- Form Based Code to guide land development and multimodal improvements for the street area or public realm
- Columbia Pike traffic signal priority (TSP) system for providing transit and emergency vehicle priority at the traffic signals
- Pike Transit Initiative recommendations
