A Vision for NC 50's Future

NC 50 is a two-lane, regionally significant corridor that passes through an area recognized as the Falls Lake watershed, and serves growing suburban residential populations around I-540 in Raleigh and in the southern part of Granville County near Creedmoor. Continued development and increasing traffic along the entire corridor is anticipated as a result of continued suburban growth into Granville County.
With the support of the NC Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, NCDOT, and Triangle Transit, a comprehensive study for NC 50 is underway to look for transportation improvements along the corridor suitable for implementation at the local and state level with three primary objectives in mind:

  • Improve transportation mobility and traffic safety along the corridor
  • Preserve the residential and rural nature of the corridor while supporting regional economic development
  • Support activities to protect recreation, water quality, and the environment in the Falls Lake watershed

Fortunately, this study has been initiated before the roadway’s performance has deteriorated beyond control.  The portion of the corridor being considered for study in this project is the 14.5-mile segment between I-540 in Raleigh and NC 56 in Creedmoor.
