Whittier Greenway Trail

City of Whittier

Whittier, CA

Developing these trails on an old railroad right-of-way, this project involves multi-use trails, including five miles of a Class I bikeway with an adjacent dual soft trail for walking and hiking. Kimley-Horn led the development of the first phase, the master plan, and the entire second phase, including all civil, traffic, and structural engineering and design (PS&E). The structural portion of the project included the rehabilitation of three pre-1950s railroad bridges, as well as a new design for a 200-foot long pedestrian bridge. The firm maintained the original character of the bridges while increasing the function and the safety of pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
