CSU Long Beach New Pedestrian Mall
California State University Long Beach
Long Beach, CA
Kimley-Horn provided site planning and civil engineering for a three-phased campus improvement project located within the central campus area. The first phase created a new pedestrian mall by replacing the engineering quad area with decorative hardscape, new landscape, decorative lighting and associated improvements. A new underground gas facility was provided and special detailing was necessary to protect sensitive central plant facility lines. The second phase involved extension of the decorative hardscape with street improvements and additional utility work. The final stage completely replaced the primary access road (Deukmejian Way) with major utility work through the corridor (new sewer, water, electrical and gas facility repairs). A new extension of central plan lines was also provided. In addition, a large above ground holding tank for the pool facility was removed and replaced with a new sewer line and monitoring station conforming to Los Angeles County Sanitation requirements.
