Protecting Our Investment

NCDOT, in partnership with the Piedmont Triad Rural Planning Organization (RPO), City of Asheboro, and Randolph County, are partnering to evaluate transportation, safety, mobility, and land use decisions along the U.S. 64 corridor (Dixie Drive), between East Presnell Road and the U.S. 220 Bypass/I-73 in Asheboro. The impetus for this study is to effectively respond to increased citizen concerns, development pressure, traffic congestion, and crashes along the study corridor. The goal of this study is to provide a comprehensive Traffic Operational and Safety Corridor Analysis to improve the safety and mobility of U.S. 64 in the area while preserving/enhancing the economic vitality along the corridor.  This effort will necessitate planning, organizing, conducting and documenting a series of public workshops. This study is for the U.S. 64 Corridor in Asheboro only.

The U.S. 64 Corridor Study planning process is intended to be transparent and open to the general public. From the stakeholder process to the public outreach meetings and design charrette, the citizens of the City of Asheboro and Randolph County are given the opportunity to provide input on the outcome of the study from the initial planning phase to the final recommendations. This open process will allow the Advisory Committee and consultant team to develop a plan that is based on the desires of the community and supported through the implementation process.
