Bristol Regional ITS Architecture

The Bristol Regional ITS Architecture development process was led by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) in coordination with the Bristol Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  The Region is defined by the boundaries of the Bristol MPO and also includes all of Washington County VA.

The Bristol Region is adjacent to the Johnson City Region and Kingsport Region.  The Johnson City Regional ITS Architecture was completed in 2006 and the Kingsport Regional ITS Architecture was developed concurrently with the Bristol Region.  The close proximity to the Kingsport Region and the fact that both Regions are located in Sullivan County TN and TDOT Region 1, and also involve the VDOT Bristol District, created an overlap in many of the stakeholders.  Three of the four workshops held during the development of the Bristol Regional ITS Architecture and Deployment Plan were conducted in coordination with workshops being held for the Kingsport Region to facilitate coordination and consistency.
