A GUIDE TO INCORPORATING TECHNOLOGY INTO TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING

The recently completed Statewide ITS Architecture and System Plan for California provides a blueprint for the development and application of ITS projects to systematically improve the operations of the state’s surface transportation networks. One key focus area of the resulting plan is regional ITS services that have the potential for added value through coordination with adjacent regions and/or state-level projects.

The service provided under this current project will focus on implementation of the California Statewide ITS Architecture and System Plan with an emphasis on partnerships among public agencies for interregional project planning and coordination. This effort directly supports the state’s emphasis on performance-based project development, the Director’s number one goal of partnering as well as the GOCalifornia initiative. Stakeholders to benefit from this project include multiple divisions and districts of the Department and several regional and local agencies.
